Feldenkrais ATM Workshop- Magic Circles, 26 – 27 January 2019, PRAGUE

Circles allows us to explore beyond dichotomies of left and right, forward and backward, up and down—moving us into the graceful realm of the sphere which can easily move in all directions. Even a seemingly linear movement such as walking is built from circles and the spirals and undulations they can create. By entering into the subtle movement of circles we can uncover our limitations and find a way to role them out of the way.

The Feldenkrais Method involves the in depth study of how we initiate and carry out our actions. By investigating how various parts of our self participate in organizing a movement, we learn how to move our whole self with greater harmony. Moshe Feldenkrais, the developer of the method, noted that in most all of our actions there are ways we work against ourselves unconsciously.

We have many habits in our movement that make them inefficient and sometimes cause us pain or a sense of stiffness and limitation. Through the method we become aware of our subtle habits and realize through our movement explorations that we have other non-habitual options. We discover a greater sense of ease, efficiency and grace in our movement and uncover a sense of freedom and creativity as well.

Circles are one of the key themes in the work of Moshe Feldenkrais. Because circles intertwine through our whole self, they allow us to track connections that can often surprise ourselves.

Those new to the Feldenkrais method will find a clear introduction to the method and feel its benefits. The move experienced mover will find an understanding of how Feldenkrais lessons are constructed, and be able to explore the many layers of integration possible surrounding a single theme.

The week following the workshop there is going to be a retreat in the mountains that explores how the insights and skills of the Feldenkrais method can be applied to massage and other bodywork modalities.

The workshop is intensive: Saturday and Sunday 10:00 – 18:00.

Price 135 EUR To book a place the deposit of 45 EUR must be payed in advance.

TRAINING, Feldenkrais Method applied to massage and bodywork, 28 January – 1 February 2019, Orlice Mountains of CZECH REPUBLIC

5 days of education applying the skills and insights of the Feldenkrais Method to massage and other bodywork modalities.

5 days of education applying the skills and insights of the Feldenkrais Method to massage and other bodywork modalities.

The Feldenkrais Method offers particular insights on using touch as a means of communication that effects underlying patterns of movement, posture, limitation, stress and efficiency. Functional Integration, the bodywork aspect of the Feldenkrais Method, is its own in depth method that takes years to learn. However, many of its underlying principles and skills can substantially enrich other massage and bodywork practices.

The week is going to revolve around three themes:

  • the power of reducing effort
  • integrative skeletal contact
  • how mobilization becomes functional learning

These transform a bodywork session into a dialog with the aspects of a person that organize tonus, movement and self perception, which foster a deep somatic experience of transformation.

We are going to explore new skills, integrate them into our existing methods and do some Awareness Through Movement to clarify certain principles of the Feldenkrais Method. Those coming to the workshop should already have experience with a bodywork modality.

The weekend prior to the retreat there is also going to be a Feldenkrais method workshopfocused on the significance of circular patterns in our movement.

Contact Improvisation Workshop, 2 – 3 February 2019, CZECH REPUBLIC

Freedom in Connection

Freedom in Connection – Contact Improvisation

You have an extraordinary chance to experience the contact improvisation in a different way. This approach is going to expand your inner feeling of fullness, openness, tenderness, simplicity, presence, trust and surrender. Through the touch you can improvise with your well-being and the wisdom of your body. The time slows down and the senses open up.

A weekend retreat of contact improvisation in which we are going to focus on how to experience freedom and enjoyment within given constraints. Sometimes given as a task, sometimes by your own choice and sometimes by just the fact we are dancing in contact.

We get into the dance – contact improvisation – itself using a completely different way from we are used to. The mind does not predict, the most important are the physical impulses. The nervous system is tuned to a much finer and more precise degree, the body responds in a more relaxed fashion and reacts more effectively. We are able to change our habits. Our blocks and stagnations lose their importance.

Such contact improvisation has renewing and strengthening effects. It becomes a dance which is integrative. It directs both dancers into balance fosters their movement wisdom. We are going to expand skills which help our dance to become a form of a motion massage. Sometimes such dance reminds you of pleasure and the healing quality of massage, sometimes it’s full of transformation emerging in somatic learning and sometimes it encourages mind to closeness, pulsating and full of life.

Žíl is the place where it all is going to happen. In the foothills of Orlice Mountains in the village of Javornice – Přím. GPS coordinates are 50.169522, 16.392851

Contact Improvisation – From the Ground Up, 31 of October – 4th of November, PRAGUE

Building Contact Improvisation from the somatic base of the Feldenkrais Method.

Our first partner in Contact Improvisation is the earth. Our dynamic and gentle relationship with the gravity and support of the earth is what makes possible a dynamic and comfortable dance with another. Gravity and support, falling and flying, structure and movement are like two sides of the same coin. Using the Feldenkrais Method this workshop will build our somatic awareness of how we can move easily with the earth and how to share this ease and support with other people in Contact Improvisation.

The Feldenkrais Method is a practical, student-centered learning method for awakening our awareness of how we act and perceive. It uses a sequence of movements to study and to reduce of limiting movement habits that we are acquiring throughout life due to various injuries and other factors. It allows us more fully to use our potential, to liberate ourself and our body and mind from habitual patterns, limiting stereotypes, pain, and brings to life awareness, grounding and freedom.

Feldenkrais Method – fusion of action and perception, 5th – 6th of November, PRAGUE

Transforming our habits at the confluence of action and perception.

Most of us wish to change ourselves and our world for the better. They key question is how? Transforming our relationship to the world involves developing an embodied understanding of the relationship between attitude, perception and action. As we practice, we learn to feel deeply how our way of moving is intertwined with our perceptions. We co-create ourselves and our world. Understanding our habits, which shape the confluence of ourselves and the world, we create the potential for greater freedom, creativity and love.

In this workshop we will be led through sequences of movement explorations which reveal how we imagine, initiate, and coordinate our selves. By lovingly uncovering our hidden habits within a field of options, we are able to realize greater freedom and to live in greater harmony with our environment. While the implications of this work is lofty, the practice is very grounded.

Freedom involves becoming aware of how we usually do things like turning our head, and developing options so that we are not simply constrained by our one habitual way. Harmonizing with the earth involves learning to sense and move in harmony with gravity, and learning to feel the support of the earth deep in our bones. Changing how we see the world involves discovering how the use of our eyes is involved with how we balance and orient ourselves. In all of these examples we will focus on the creative reweaving of our self and our immediate environment.
